John "J.D." DeServio revealed during an interview with Ralph Sutton of the nationally syndicated rock radio show "The Tour Bus" (web site) that BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will embark on an extensive headlining tour of North America in March 2009 with SEVENDUST as support. No further details are currently available.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will embark on a 10-city European tour in November/December, culminating in a headlining appearance at this year's Hard Rock Hell II festival, set to take place December 5-7, 2008 at Prestatyn Sands, North Wales, UK. Intermixed with the tour dates will be a UK Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist/vocalist) personal appearance that will be announced shortly.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY announced in June 2007 that it had parted ways with Roadrunner Records.
The group's sole release through Roadrunner was 2006's "Shot to Hell" album.
"Shot to Hell" sold just under 32,000 copies in the United States during its first week of release — less than the 45,000 copies shifted by BLS's "Mafia" (Artemis) back in March 2005 — to land at position No. 21 on The Billboard 200 chart.
CYCLE OF PAIN had its song "5" used on the FX drama "Sons Of Anarchy". The episode featuring the track aired on September 17.
Audio samples of CYCLE OF PAIN's music can be found on DeServio's web site (scroll down to the bottom of page for the audio player).
As previously reported, DeServio has signed with Reform Records for CYCLE OF PAIN.
Accompanying DeServio in CYCLE OF PAIN is vocalist/rhythm guitarist Gregg Locascio, lead guitarist Joe Taylor (who plays with Doro Pesch) and drummer Rich Monica. In fact, DeServio, Locascio and Taylor were in a band together when they were only 15 years old. "We grew up together," says DeServio. "It's family, just like BLS."
The reason behind CYCLE OF PAIN is simple, "The tunes were written to create some awesome music," explains DeServio. "This record is very diverse. Our influences range from BLACK SABBATH to JOHN COLTRANE, there's even a piano ballad with string arrangements on here. Zakk Wylde is going to do a guitar solo or two and Brian Tichy will be on a few songs as well. CYPRESS HILL is also doing a track with us."
Endorsed by Schecter Guitars and an alumni of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, DeServio's rock 'n' roll resume includes playing bass for LITA FORD when she opened for MÖTLEY CRÜE on the "Dr. Feelgood" tour. DeServio then joined UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore's band for their opening stint in front of RUSH on the "Roll the Bones" tour. Aligning himself with Zakk Wylde in PRIDE & GLORY, DeServio got to open for AEROSMITH. In addition to working with Richie Kotzen and Derek Sherinian amongst others, DeServio often holds bass clinics and teaches.
